In January 1994, Farrar called manager Tony Margherita to inform him of his resolution to depart the band. Uncle Tupelo split on Could 1, 1994, after completing a farewell tour. The Plebes then decided to alter its name to The Primitives, memek a reference to a 1965 song by psychedelic rock group The Groupies. Records. Son Volt had an early school rock hit with "Drown" from the album Trace, but Wilco maintained a more commercially profitable profession within the years to observe.
